Play games on your Mac with DeSmuME, an emulator for the Nintendo DS, and jump back into your childhood.
Emulators, like DeSmuME, load up games for consoles that you might not own. It boots a false version of the system you need to run a certain game, making that title compatible even though you’re playing it on a computer. This program focuses on the DS games. The developers behind the program made it compatible with hundreds of ROMs, and most of them are available online. If you can get past the morality of using paid software for free, this application is a dream.
There are a few steps you need to take before you can bounce to the chimes of classic games and their nostalgia. The initial setup is a bit complicated, making it a barrier to novice computer gamers. However, once you’ve gotten past this first part, jumping into games is a breeze. The interface is very intuitive and makes for a comfortable experience. Also, the titles run smoothly.
Sadly, some Macs will struggle to work with DeSmuME. The emulator is currently only compatible with Intel Macs, meaning some older ones are left out. In fact, while most games run very well on this emulator, sometimes the performance is black and white. Either the title will perform smoothly, or the entire thing collapses and crashes.

This emulator runs on Mac OS X. It’s also available for Windows XP and Vista.
Is there a better alternative?
No. Other emulators, like RetroArch, might be more lightweight, but DeSmuME has them beat with its plethora of features.
