'Albatross' is a guitar-based instrumental by Fleetwood Mac, released as a single in November 1968, later featuring on the compilation albums The Pious Bird of Good Omen (UK) and English Rose (US). The piece was composed by Peter Green.

Fleetwood Mac are a British-American rock band formed in 1967 in London. The only original member present in the band is its drummer, Mick Fleetwood. Despite band founder Peter Green naming the group by combining the surnames of two of his former bandmates (Fleetwood, McVie), bassist John McVie played neither on their first single nor at their first concerts buy keyboard player, Christine McVie, has, to date, appeared on all but two albums.
The two most successful periods for the band were during the late 1960s, when they were led by guitarist Peter Green and achieved a UK number one with 'Albatross'; and from 1975 to 1987 when the band was made up of Mick Fleetwood, John McVie, Christine McVie, Lindsey Buckingham and Stevie Nicks. Fleetwood Mac's second album after the Nicks and Buckingham joined them, 1977's 'Rumours', produced 4 U.S. Top 10 singles. To date the album has sold over 40m copies worldwide.

Stone, who played in such pre-Van Halen outfits as Genesis before changing the band's name to Mammoth, which eventually rebranded itself Van Halen in 1974. Stone, who was replaced by Michael Anthony, played on early band demos of 'Glitter,' 'Gentlemen Of Leisure,' 'Angel Eyes,' and 'Believe Me,' popped up to jam with several Van Halen cover bands in recent years. The track was originally released on Fleetwood Mac’s 1995 album, Time, with the song was recently re-recorded adding 30 seconds of the late-Peter Green’s early-Mac classic 'Albatross' tagged on to the end of the song.
