Microsoft Office applications contain a shared library of over 20 alternative color palettes. PowerPoint, Word, and Excel share this same library of color schemes. However, I often find it difficult to find a good combination of colors for my PowerPoint projects within this built-in color library. More likely the colors in these palettes are not the ones we are going to use when creating branded presentations and documents.

You can replace Excel's default color palette (left) with custom colors, including those from a Document Theme (right). To use theme colors, open the Formatting Palette and expand the Document. Sep 07, 2018.

Most of these built-in color swatches are dull, unexciting and outdated looking.

The good news is you can customize PowerPoint, Word, and Excel theme colors. Custom color palettes are especially useful when you have to use a non-predefined color scheme very often, such as the corporate colors of the company. The bad news is unless you’re a professional designer, it takes hours and tremendous effort to find a color combination that works.

That’s why I have created a downloadable library of 150 modern color schemes for PowerPoint and other Office applications. After downloading the package, just follow the simple installation instructions provided in the User Guide file. Thereafter you will always have these beautiful color combinations in your preferred office application.

These color combinations are inspired from Abode color library and Coolors. Special thanks are given to those who had published these fantastic color combos.

Hi all. There’s been some interest in my (not so original; oh well) color palettes based on the films of Wes Anderson.

Ocean Data View is widely used by oceanographers, but their color palettes aren’t very exciting. I made new palettes for ODV (.pal files) that are inspired by the colors used in the films of Wes Anderson (except Bottle Rocket, which had a boring color palette).

I’ve included both the color palettes that are continuous (113 different gradation) and discretized at 8 and 10 intervals. Each of these 3 can be used both “forward” (FWD) and “reverse” (REV).

How to use:
Download and save in the “Palettes” folder within the main “ODV” folder. On my Mac, this is under “Documents”. Then, when running ODV, select “properties” then “general” to change the palette. You will have to re-start ODV for the properties panel to see the new palettes.
