Google Cast is an official extension developed for the Google Chrome web browser that offers you the possibility to send the content in your current tab to a connected Chromecast device. Integrate into your Google Chrome browser a simple tool for casting content in no time. Google Cast deploys. Cast your computer screen. You can display your entire computer screen using Chrome on Mac, Windows, and Chromebooks. Note: To hear audio on your TV, use a Windows computer. On your computer, open Chrome. The Cast Chrome Sender Framework API provides a wrapper for thelower-level Base API. This framework simplifies and streamlines writingsender applications. The framework provides a simpler way to manage the Castsession and state, a Cast button implementation, and data binding to simplifyimplementation of a Cast remote player.

Requirements

The Chrome Sender SDK supports the Chrome browser on a Mac, Windows, Linux,ChromeOS, and Android devices. (For native mobile Cast applications seeAndroid Apps andiOS Apps instead.)

The Google Cast Chrome Sender SDK is provided natively in Chrome.

Updates to Google Cast occur automatically for all users,and provide fixes, user-facing features, and SDK capabilities. Updatesare backwards-compatible, and should be transparent to your site.

Registration

Other than registering your application and device,no special setup steps are required to use the Google Cast ChromeSender SDK. As long as you have the latest version of Chrome, it is possiblefor your web content to access and use the SDK.

To register your application and device:

• Follow the steps at Registration.Once you have your application ID, you're ready to develop yourapplication.

Testing Cast buttons

While your Chrome sender app should have its own Cast button, a usercan also invoke the cast feature by choosing Cast from theChrome menu, as shown here. Your Chrome sender app should handle bothcases.

Users can also optionally install theGoogleCast toolbar icon in order to get directaccess to Google Cast functionality without having to use the Chrome menu.

Chrome beta channel

A public beta channel for Chrome is also available. New versionsof Chrome are pushed to the beta channel prior to a full release; the betachannel is also updated more often than the stable channel. This givesdevelopers (and passionate early adopters) advance access to new features,and allows you to ensure that your site works with upcoming versions ofChrome.

To use the public beta channel:

• To report issues, with theGoogle Cast toolbar icon installed,right-click on the Cast toolbar icon and choose 'Report an issue'.We can’t respond individually to most feedback, but we greatly value theinput on the beta channel.
• Before pushing updates to your live site, ensure that you test with thecurrent stable version of Chrome. Most visitors to your site will havethe stable version of Chrome installed, and if you depend on beta-onlyfeatures, users with the stable version will be impacted.

The Cast button opens a dialog to connect, control, and disconnect from Web Receivers.

Note that the Cast button is not specific to Google Cast; it can be used to represent both Web and non-Web Receivers (like Bluetooth headsets). Web Receivers should always appear under the Cast dialog, and never under another dialog, menu, or control.

Introducing the Cast button helps existing users know that the sender app now supports Castingand also helps users new to Google Cast.

A When Web Receivers are available, the Cast button must be visible from every screen where there is playable content, and located in a consistent position while browsing or playing content. It will also appear in Chrome's header for global control.
B In mobile apps, the Cast button should be on the right side.
C In Chrome, the Cast button should be on the right side in the content media controls (for example, see embedded video). If the media controls contain a fullscreen button, place the Cast button to the left of it.

Note

Google Cast employs a multi-tasking model, which allows users to browse the sender app and other apps while casting. The Cast button must be visible from every screen where there is playable content, so the user doesn’t have to hunt to find where to pause or stop the content playing on TV.

Best practices
For each of the button states, use colors that match the style of other UI elements of your app. Using a distinct highlight color (such as yellow) for the ON / Connected state is optional.

Notes

• The Cast icon displays in Chrome to provide access to the Cast extension regardless of the availability of Cast devices.
• The Connecting (animated) state appears when the connection to the Cast API takes longer than expected (the Android and Chrome SDK's will automatically animate the Cast icon). Once connected, the Web Receiver app launches.
• The ON / Connected state of the Cast icon has been updated and now uses a solid fill within the icon frame. The new Cast icon and icon templates are available here.
